Tracks of the day

http://www.karencivil.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/j-cole-performing.jpgOnce again, J. Cole is on the song, but this dude Miguel steals the spotlight with his singing. It's his song, but of course if an up and coming rap phenomenon  is on it, it must be check out. The beat is very laid back and mellow, but the kick and drum are what make it, and the melody flows well too. So go ahead & check it!

Miguel ft. J.Cole – All I Want Is You

Though this song was off G.O.O.D music artist, Consequence's mixtape,  *Cons TV Presents: Movies On Demand*,(which dropped in February), this song deserves more than one look. And might as well check out the mixtape as well.Listen up!

Abstract Mentality

When the painting gets tough, make photographs. The graffiti legend FUTURA 2000 is well known for his moves behind the paint brush, but he also a well known photographer, for those who are true fans. Online blog/website Graffuturism puts a focus onto the graffiti legend that is and more importantly puts into perspective FUTURA’s eye as a photographer. In a recent interview with Graffuturism, Futura 2000 discusses how photography affected has integrated into his visual communication. It goes to show how one's own personal green thumb can develop into a a whole hand. Check it!

What do you do when Hip Hop's best rap freshmen class, a soon to be freshman and Hip hop's most lyrical rapper in the game (underrated) are put in one spot?   Yes ladies and germs, they have created a supergroup called All City Chess Club. The super group, which consists of Asher Roth, B.o.B., The Cool Kids, Charles Hamilton, Blu, Diggy Simmons, J. Cole and Wale, might be featured on Lupe's "I'm Beaming" remix, so I've heard. They all most definantly have flow, and one of the youngest, Diggy Simmons, is catching up with the upperclassmen.

You know that Alicia Keys song with Drake on the background vocals? Well Joe Budden took the mellow beat and spat all over it with his vicious venom lyrics! Okay, not real but its worth a listen. Check it!

Can I save you, from you?

Drake is slowly coming back with his Heartbreak Drake flow, kind of his alter ego to rap. His RnB tracks are deep and his lyrics make the song. This reference track for Jamie Foxx, Fall for your type, is a perfect example.  This new one is only a verse from the Jamie Foxx version, but its great. Check it!

Drake- Fall for your type

Track Of The Day

"The sheets are stained with memories of your soft kiss."

City And Colour is an acoustic/folk band I was introduced to this month. Dallas Green is the music genius behind all this mojo folk talk. He is who creates these dynamically gentle and vulnerable masterpieces. One of my favorites is ' Like Knives'. The words to this song really pierce through emotions, especially when you can relate. Check it!

Fresh Meat

So last years cover for XXL freshman edition really lived it up! They were all great, & most gave me a peice of their music that year. Such as Wale, Blu,  Ace Hood, Curren$y, Mickey Factz, Cory Gunz,  and my favorite Kid Cudi. Everyone of those freshman had are nice. This year I really don't know. Can they live up to the sophmores?  My favorite this yea are Wiz, Big Sean & of course J Cole.

G.O.O.D Music

Big Sean x Mr. Hudson, two of Kanye's proteges off this label. This song " Way out" is crazy, literally and figuratively. Big Sean's lyrics tell a good story, and Mr.Hudson's catchy hook/ melody tune into the beat altogether.

Track Of The Day

Time is only wasting; so why wait for eventually? - Alicia Keys

This is a strong soulful song, reminds me some what of Mary J. & Sade, for some odd reason. Even though Drake is only on background vocals, Alicia really doesn't need any other help. On the other hand the beat and lyrics are so genuine & powerful. This track brings "love" back to life. Check it!

Epic Goosebumps

The remix to this song is incredibly incredible. Seriously, the 808 drums make the original song, but in this one you can really feel how the drums are so epic and make the song so great. Every aching pound contributes to the powerful lyrics. Sheesh! They really killed it in this one.Why isnt Kanye West in many of his videos? The original song was off his 2008 album, but the video keeps us wondering for what's next. It's visually stunning video from the hitmaker. Check it !

KANYE WEST "Coldest Winter" Directed by: NABIL  "ITUNES link below" from nabil elderkin on Vimeo.

Nabil previously directed Kanye’s “Paranoid” and “Welcome to Heartbreak” videos, but he feels this one was the most challenging of all his collaborations with the rapper. He tells MTV:

“It’s pretty minimalistic,” he said. “It’s slow and very visual. I just wanted to catch the vibe of the song and not get too literal. Because the lyrics are very close to Kanye and go much deeper than the video goes, obviously hearing the song you know it’s very emotional.”

A Cruise Down Reality Road

how to make it in america mixtape How To Make It In America (The Mixtape)
Well from the first two episodes I got an idea of what this new journey of making it in America is about. The second episode on the other hand gives you a great understanding of what's coming. The New Series How To Make It In America  is  full of surreal determination. It's mainly about dudes trying to make it big, while still living small.  A FIT drop-out and a good friend of his are trying to make a jean line, "Crisp", based off of retro 1970s designer jeans. The theme song is catchy and smooth, which is what really pulled me in. If you watch it Kid Cudi doesn't have much screen time; the show is still a must watch. Plus a free mixtape to listen to afterward.  Check it !

Tracks Of The Day

Polanxx is a local rapper from Perth Amboy, NJ. He recently dropped a mixtape and the intro is ridiculous ! Check it! He also has two other mixtapes, & they are also heat, but his latest one is my favorite. My favorite has to be "In Jersey", since almost everything in that track I can relate to and know what he is talking about. He speaks the truth!

Polanxx - Rise Of The Rebel

Both Joell Ortiz and Novel are two rising artists. Joell packs the rhymes, while Novel hits the beats and hooks. I saw it as them fueling off each others creativity. "Stressful" is my favorite off this tape, and is surly a preview to Joell's album Free Agent. This is a mixtape with raw, well developed and thoughtful group of songs. Check it!

Defying The Predictable

Winter is still here

Label Rag: Chevignon A/W 09 ‘Legend’ collection

& Here it goes..

J. Cole is making moves, & is making moves fast. For those who have never heard about this dude, he is an up and coming rapper on Jay z's label Roc Nation. Other than that go listen to J.Cole's mixtape The Warmup to see how his flow works. And while you're at it listen to his latest freestyle " Knock On Wood." He raps on Common’s Go instrumental. This dude has yet to disappoint me. Check it & download it now !

J.Cole - Knock on wood

Upper Playground x Quentin Tarantino

Inglorious Bastards was one of the most epic films of 2009, or maybe even all time. Upper Playground adds their own art form to create THE LOST ART OF INGLORIOUS BASTARDS. These grueling, yet entertaining pieces of art are based off the movie, and as for those who saw the movie, know it was harsh . I appreciate the complexity of these paintings. To include, this collection of art will be auctioned off for $300 in Los Angeles, California. Sales will benefit Haiti Earthquake Relief on behalf of the Red Cross.

The Coming

The Gorillaz ! Need I say more, haha, of course. They are one of my all time favorite bands; probably my only favorite virtual band thus far. Their new album, Plastic Beach, will be dropping on March 9,2010. This piece of work will include Snoop Dogg, Little Dragon, Mos Def, Lou Reed, De La Soul and more. Do your self a favor and CHECK IT OUT ! Oh, and even if you don't like alternative rock, or any kind form of rock, this album will have plenty of alternative hip hop, which is real dop.

P.S : Tracklist Below.

1. Orchestral Intro (featuring Sinfonia ViVA)
2. Welcome To The World Of The Plastic Beach (feat. Snoop Dogg & Hypnotic Brass Ensemble)
3. White Flag (feat. Kano, Bashy & The National Orchestra For Arabic Music)

Pac Div x The Cool Kids - Shutup

After watching this teaser, it actually makes me want to watch the real video. The concept and the whole idea of this teaser is dope. I've been wanting to see the Cool Kids and Pac Div work together for a while. What suck's is I still have to wait, haha. Check it !

This collection caught my eye.British lable John Smedley gives us a light look for thus spring/summer. The crisp colors and the vibrant combination of colors make it killer. Though is it simple and the, simplicity is truly key.

Track Of The Day

It ain't over till' the fat lady sings, and I'm guessing Hova is that fat lady, haha. His song It's over is deep & really made me think of what he was saying. His lyrics hit me, as they always do. This sounds like a joint he would of made back in the days, when he was with ROC. Plus, the soulful chorus is ridiculously tight. Seriously, check it !

Killer Time

A brand new POV, along with a new mixtape. Tyga is getting better, and lyrically smarter each mixtape he drops. This time around, Tyga's Black Thoughts mixtape, isn't as up to par as his last few, but no doubt it is better than most mixtapes that have dropped this fall/winter.Check it!

Tracks Of The Day

Kanye West has a new, non autotune tune and it's worth hearing. But it's just a freestyle, so it talks for itself. Check it!

Kanye West – I’m So Appalled

Lupe F. has really been freestyling a lot at his shows. There are a couple in mind that you should check out. But there's this buzz about him being the second best rapper, but not being able to f**k with Eminem. Which is datebly true. Check it !

UNUSED 2009 Fall/Winter Lookbook

Haha, this is by far my favorite. The old man is probably the raddest 40+ year old I have ever seen. Check it !
